Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Once again, BSUnion is back in collaboration with UPP in organising the eagerly awaited Islamic annual event KEM IBADAH IV 1433H/2012M. This event aims not only to gain more knowledge on Islam but to also appreciate and comprehend our day-to-day ibadah. The event is open to all Bruneian students.

NEG Volunteers - Thank you!

Thank you very much to our NEG volunteers yesterday. This does not only apply to those who registered themselves as ‘volunteers’ but also to those who just popped out of the crowd to offer a helping hand. Alhamdulillah, the NEG went smoothly. There are volunteers who truly impressed me yesterday. MasyAllah. Some did beyond their assigned task, and I very much appreciate your full commitment and sense of responsibility to your assigned or unassigned tasks. MasyAllah. I am very grateful. Without being briefed in the morning, you took the challenge into you own hands, and looked past our flaws without protest and criticism. God bless you, guys. There were also some administrative flaws, but with ikhlas, sabar and full dedication, you guys worked it out. You made it happen. This may be a cliché, but you know it’s true, that without you guys it would’ve been messy.

This is what we call a genuine BNS support. True supporters don’t bring BNS down, they support. Unity brings strength.

I may be running around the place here and there yesterday, but I was aware of each and every one of you, you guys were brilliant! Such reliable supporters. Thank you so much for your fantastic support! Eh, manis eh, kamu atu ah.

We are holding a BNS Motto Competition 2011. Where our current motto is "feels like home". Now, we are inviting you, our current 2010-2011 BNS members, to come up with a Motto that means something to you, or describes your experience in Newcastle with BNS.

Submission of Motto opens NOW and closes on the -- 16th of March, Wednesday at 12:00PM, noon!

WINNER

- Winner's motto will be printed on the cuff of this year's hoodies

- Motto will be retained for the next 2 years

- Will get a £5 Primark voucher

RULES:

1. This motto should NOT exceed more than 3 words. For example, "Aku Alai Manis" (consists of 3 words).

2. Motto can be in Brunei or standard Bahasa Melayu or in English.

3. Confidentiality. This is a highly confidential process. Motto should be sent privately, i.e. not through FB walls, comment boxes. It should be sent via private (one:one) text through phone or facebook message, or in any way that cannot be seen by the public.

4. Motto should only be sent to Miss Zakiah Ismail (07516962206).

5. Do not forget to state your NAME.

Northeast Games (NEG) is ON!

BNS and the Malaysian Society (MALSOC) will be hosting the Northeast Games (NEG) this Easter on the 26th of March 2011 which falls on a Saturday. This will be our first ever public event, calling for Bruneian students from all around UK to participate.

Date: 26th of March 2011, Saturday

Location: Centre for Sport Westgate Community College, West Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 9LG

This will be a mini sports event, consisting of two sports:

5-a-side Football
Badminton

5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL

8 Brunei teams will be playing, slots will be filled on a first come first serve basis

Entry fee £40.00 per team

A minimum of 6 players and a maximum of 8 players will only be allowed in each team

- Outdoor

- Astroturf

BADMINTON

There will be 3 categories:

1. Men Singles

2. Women Singles

3. Mixed Doubles

Men Singles

8 Brunei slots will be available

Entry fee £6.00 per person

Women Singles

8 Brunei slots will be available

Entry fee £6.00 per person

6 Brunei slots will be available

For each, slots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

Registration forms will be released on the 12th of February, 2011, at 00:00 hours MIDNIGHT, i.e. Friday night, Saturday morning. Participation of each individual or team in the NEG will be based on the first come first serve basis.

Registration forms and slots stated above are specifically for Bruneian applicants. Our fellow Malaysian counterpart will process their applicants separately from ours, for ease. Therefore, the total number of slots for NEG will be double the available slots stated above.

As these are busy times to meet deadlines of assignments and exam preparations and revisions for most of us. I hope you are doing fantastic with your revisions and assignments!

Regarding the Northeast Games (NEG) which has been planned to be held in April - I understand most of you have been asked by friends from other parts of the UK or even, have been asking each other regarding this event.

So, with regard to the NEG's current status, we are currently in the process of processing our proposals for sponsorship; in which, the NEG can only proceed upon receiving sponsors. We will keep you all updated with the NEG's progress. InsyAllah (:

I am extremely sorry to inform that, both of our football teams, BNS FC and BNS United, will not be playing in the BSUnion Winter Games due to registration delay (by 4-5 minutes?) - I know most of our players and supporters are very frustrated at this news at the moment as this was our most anticipated game of the season.

The BSUnion Winter Games holds the most eminent tournaments of the Autumn term, hence slots are greatly competed for in order to participate in the game.

I am very sad at this definitely-not-cool news myself, but lets keep ourselves together, maybe this time ia bukan rezeki kitani. But lets just keep on playing and keep on participating in other upcoming tournaments (:

Team Details:

Basketball, Netball and Futsal can have up to 2 import players only.
An import player refers to any non-Bruneian student.

BNS FC played well in the BMT yesterday, although the team didn't make it to the final, it managed to make its way up to the semi-final. Alhamdulillah. We are really proud of the team, especially with our players' resiliency and patience throughout the tournament. There were some disappointments and sad moments yesterday, on some faces, but with BNS supporters - they never fail to express the true meaning of "support" - now, that's our game to play (:

What do you feel about today's performance, compared sama the team's performance in previous tournaments?

Ani kami baru-baru jua balik (dari Brunei) kan, with 2 weeks of training, okay lah. Tapi we can still improve for our next tournament. InsyAllah. Aku happy with the performance today! Even though kalah and inda proceed to the next round, aku happy! Not only happy about the game, tapi happy pasal kami the only Asian team to participate in the tournament.

Event: BNS Ice Breaking 2010
Location: Leazes Park (if weather permits)
Date: October 9th 2010, Saturday
Time: 11:00 to 18:00 hour

If it rains, alternative location for this event will be at:

Everyone is expected to attend this event, especially the juniors. Here you will get the opportunity to mingle and get to know each other, both the juniors and the seniors.

Food and drinks will be provided and definitely potluck will be welcomed! God bless you. Hehe! There will be games for everyone to partake too. We will clean-up the place together, bergotong-royong, at the end of the day. It will be an enjoyable day, insyAllah (:

Annual BNS membership fee would be £5.00 per person for this year. So please bring along £5.00 with you nanti. Membership forms will be distributed to everyone at the start or during the event. Forms can be obtained from our treasurer, Munirah My (it could also be a challenge for some of you to look for this Munirah My person to get your form) and shall be returned to her along with your payment (:

BNS Sungkai 2010 at Nyonya Restaurant last night was awesome. Alhamdulillah, everything went well. Also present last night, our super-duper seniors, seniors, juniors and friends. Hope you guys enjoyed your food, and had a great time catching up.

A heartfelt appreciation to Mansur Latif for his wonderful speech! Indeed, congratulations to our seniors who have completed their degrees and graduated with excellent results, also to those who have completed their masters. Congratulations! We wish you all a very bright future! Amin.

Thank you to those who came, it was really nice to have you all, and it was a pleasure to finally meet the juniors, although not everyone could make it last night, but insyAllah, we will see you in Newcastle then. The voting for the 2010-2011 BNS Committee was also cast last night by the seniors.

Yesterday's session of BNS Video Clip Recording was a success. Thank you to our Director Hifney Har and our very creative BNS crew. Alhamdulillah, the project went smoothly and we finished on time - the Hari Raya scene is a wrap! It is expected that the crew will do another scene on the 3rd of September after BNS Sungkai dan sembahyang terawih next week, insyAllah.

BIA Event Newcastle

Dear BNS,

On behalf of BIA, I would like to thank you for your kind effort in assisting us knowing that you have your study on top of that which is also priority for you. However, you have managed it well and I can say you organised the roadshow pretty good, as in not because of the foods but at least properly done. Although the space/ venue are quite limited, but I think the guests are happy and comfortable with the event. Nevertheless, I hope every ones who have attended our roadshow get benefits and extra knowledge on BIA’s background.

I hope this type of event can be organised again in the future, inshaallah we will be organising such similar events. Anyway, I really appreciate for your kindness and to the rest of the teams as well, and we apologies for not being able to go round with you guys inNewcastle.

BEG 2010 Football

BNS Football team finally managed to claimed their first ever silverware in one of Brunei UK most competitive sports event after claiming the 3rd place in BruNotts Easter Game 2010 (BEG). BNS FC beat Santos 2-0 in the 3rd place play-off. BNS FC who likely to be eliminated in the group stage when the were beaten heavily in the first two games by 4-1 against Sakura and Ice Cube. In their third game they come back with a 2-0 win against a team yang aku lupa namanya. Then they drew 1-1 against BruLiv and won 5-1 in their final group game. Fortunately for BNS they managed to placed second in the group with just 1 goal advantage with Ice-Cube where they both shared 7 points. In the Quarter-Final BNS faced a tough test when they were against Winter Games Champion, Senna and Alhamdulillah with the support from BNS Family Cute unexpectedly they beat Senna 3-1.

In the Semi-Final BNS faced Bernazz, 3rd place in the Winter Games. Bernazz who previously beat BNS in the Winter Game 3rd place play-off by 4-2 beat BNS again but this time with a narrow margin 2-1. BNS who were known was well beaten when their moral are down especially after losing crucial games managed to rebound back from their past experience and with the help from the supporters, they able to won the 3rd place match 2-0.

BNS FC makes history

BNS FC had claimed the 3rd spot in BEG 2010 in Football. This was the greatest achievement so far for BNS FC who used to be the knock out in the preliminary round since BNS FC participated in the easter game. Meanwhile for the netball team although they didnt get through the preliminary round they managed to performed well and won several games.According to the BNS netball captain, the netball team for this year is far more better than the previous years. Congratulations to BNS Family Cute 2010 for making the history for BRUNEI NEWCASTLE SOCIETY.

Two goals made BNS FC lalah

Two last minute goals destroyed BNS FC dreams to clinch their first ever silverware when they were beaten 2-1 by Bradford Alpha in the Bradford game last week. BNS FC took the lead though in the first half from Hifney from a rebound after a shot from Abg Zaidi was saved by Bradford Alpha goalie. During that match BNS captain, Wan was forced to be taken out due to injury. BNS FC was two minutes away from winning their first silverware when Ali snatched the equaliser for Bradford Alpha. When the game looks to end as a draw Bradford Alpha senior player Abg Wadi scores the winning goal for Bradford Alpha when his long range shot beat BNS FC goalkeeper Deco. Its a game that was hard to swallowed for the BNS FC players, although they got a chance on their final game against BruLeeds when a draw at least was just enough to put them on second spot but they failed to took that opportunity when they were thrashed 4-0 which ended BNS FC just a third place spot.

Brunei Newcastle Society (BNS) telah pun menganjurkan sambutan memperingati Maulidur Rasul di 72 Dilston Road pada 26 Feruari yang lalu. Majlis dimulakan dengan bacaan Al-Fatihah dan seterusnya bacaan surah Yassin dan di selajurkan dengan bacaan doa selamat yang diketuai oleh Presiden BNS, Firdaus Abdullah. On the way to my usual bus stop, I saw a poster about The Chinese State Circus performing Mulan (feat the Shoalin Warriors) at Sage on 7th and 9th january ONLY! I went there few days ago, VERDICT says: It is not too bad, but they are lacking with quantity wise! I only got few bits and pieces of BBQ chicken and filled with loads of Mozarella cheese! for £2.50 -- Personally money wise -- affordable and cheap, quantity -- very poor.

Hello to all the BNS members and committees!
First of all, congrtulations to the new committees -- I do hope all of you will make a difference for all the Bruneians studying in Newcastle and surrounding areas, make them feel like home, belong and updated! :-)

Today is the 1st of December -- time flies by so fast... To those who bought advent calender, enjoy the surprises until Xmas. Winter holiday term is here soon, and am sure many of us is very busy with assignments, tests, practicals and exam preparation for January -- Good luck and work smart.

From my side, there is nothing much to update. But I do hope this blog will be filled with awesome events, juicy gossips and updates from the elected committees. After all, we are here for each other and show the others how the Bruneians roll :)

An open invitation to all graphic designers/cartoonists/artists in Brunei (and to you Geordies in UK). I am willing to buy one original, creative and enjoyable comic book/novel at its worth. Participants can take their time creating their original comic book but it must follow under these terms and conditions.

Terms and conditions:

1. Comic book/novel must have a story that begins and ends within one book. No continuations, no series, no episodes, just one full story. (Think of it as a whole movie in a comic book.)
2. There are no limits to how many pages you want in your comic book/novel. As long as the story ends in that comic book/novel.
3. Your comic book/novel must be in a .jpg format and secured into a pdf file. There is no need for hard copies.
4. Your comic book must be original and creative to be paid for. Payment will be Cash on Delivery but for you geordies, I will pay via paypal or bank transfer.
5. Your comic book/novel must have your very own signature to claim that it is rightfully yours and not stolen. This point is important, anyone found guilty will be notified and disqualified for future reference.
6. It must be of proper language. Either English or Malay. Both if preferred.
7. It must have a good storyline or at least a really addicting story to produce good content.
8. Your handwriting must be properly written as well.

How this is going to be done:

* You make your comic.
* You send it to me as a protected pdf file with a 7 days free trial feature via email.
* I will contact you if your comic storyline is original and the graphics are outstandingly creative. Also, if your comic has met all the terms and conditions stated above.
* I will buy your comic. (This may range from B$70 - B$200, depending on the market price or 30 pounds - 90 pounds)
* I will manage all the marketing, promotion and processes.
* You take 70% of the profits.
* 30% will go to more marketing and promotion.

Note: there is no deadline, so you may take as much time as you wish but best if it is done soon. This is to help search, cultivate and improve local Bruneian artists/cartoonists/graphic designers.

Hello to all Bruneians,
First of all apologise for not updating this blog for quite a while. My laptop is dead, that's why this blog has not been updated since then. I just got the chance today to post something.

How are all the juniors doing? Bummer! I missed the BNS Halloween Party -- I do hope everyone had fun and of course enjoyed the food and companies :)

The weather in Newcastle is as usual: FREEZING and Christmas is just next month. Speaking of Christmas, I do advise all of you to come down to the toon and admire the Christmas Window by Fenwick. Also do not spend so much this month, because next month will be mad! There will be sale and most of all: The BOXING DAY! Save up all the cash and spend it all madly on 26th December 2009!

Am not very too sure what the President and the committees have in mind for Christmas and New Year 2010! I think there should be a ridiculous awesome party, am talking about BBQs, Singstar (maybe), Wii, Movie marathon, board games and such! As well as gift exchange or something. BNS committee will definitely come up with something eventually :)

Anyways, I got to Dash for my leisure time now, since I just got a new laptop (nothing fancy or expensive... Wish I don't have to spend my Vacation money and wished it was a VAIO as well). Oh well, I should be grateful either way. Before I log out, do TAKE a good care of your laptop & never attempt to force shut down when its updating its software. OR even let it turned on for days~ Give it a rest sometimes ;)

Halal Subway

YAY! There is a Halal Subway in Newcastle, yes Subway sandwiches are mouth watering! I am craving for one now, unfortunately there is no such a thing called DELIVERY service for Subway!!!!

Anyways, I found out how to get there with the bus. So far, I only know one bus service that stops exactly at the Subway! Take bus 53 from Grainger street, return ticket is 2.20 pounds (and take bus service 54 to go back to Newcastle city centre). If you want to drive or get there by a taxi the address is 101 Coatsworth Road, Gateshead NE8 1SQ

If any of you know other bus services that stop at Coatsworth road, do share with us! So save up for that footlong sub!

Hi everyone,
First of all I apologize for not maintaining the previous blog. Over the summer I have been trying to figure out what's the password for it, I gave up and made a new one today. I promised this will be the blog for BNS this year onwards, hopefully.

It might be a little too late to wish you all Selamat Hari Raya Maaf zahir dan batin, but its worth mentioning it as I have not meet many of you, especially the juniors. I would also like to congratulate to those who graduated, good job! To the new scholars, welcome to the toon and hope you are liking the toon so far, regardless the crap weather! and last but not least, to the 3rd year, masters, in-service (and forgive me if I forgot to mention everybody) good luck with all the workloads and am sure we all will be super depressed and stressed out. Hence, if you need anyone to talk to, there is always BNS committee :)

This blog should be packed with infos about what's going on with the BNS Society (again, hopefully it will be packed with updates and such). I do stress that all committee members should get involved and contribute something for this blog, so it will be useful to the juniors and future comers.

That's all for now, and I will definitely post who are the new committee members for BNS this year. So all of you know who to contact for whatever reason.
